> (30) Huan Wen, Marshal of the Jin, revered the Dharma in his final years. A nun visited him, and Wen treated her with tireless respect. Whenever she bathed, she would linger past the scheduled time. Growing suspicious, he spied on her in secret, and saw the nun brandishing a blade to slice herself, cutting off limbs and carving flesh into pieces. After a while, the nun emerged. Wen questioned her about the matter, and the nun said, "If your aspirations are realized, your body will be just like that!" At that time, Wen was plotting to usurp the imperial throne; hearing this, he despondently desisted. The nun then took her leave, and it is not known where she went. (Drawn from the Gantong lu).
