> Son of Tang's crown prince Tai Ding. After ascending the throne, he was not clear in his virtue and overturned Tang's statutes and laws. Yi Yin exiled him to Tong Palace (the site of Tang's tomb). Yi Yin then assumed the regency and managed the state to receive the feudal lords in audience. Tai Jia resided in Tong for three years, reproaching and reforming himself, abiding in benevolence, and turning toward righteousness. Yi Yin then presented Tai Jia with the ceremonial cap and robes, and returned him to Bo. Tai Jia redoubled his cultivation of virtue, and the feudal lords all submitted. He protected and benefited the common people, not daring to mistreat widows or widowers. He was titled Taizong. He was on the throne for thirty-three years.
