> Descendants of Zhuanxu; for generations they dwelt among the Man and Jing as chieftains. At the beginning of the Zhou, Yuxiong served King Wen. In the time of King Cheng, his grandson Xiong Yi was enfeoffed in Chu with the surname Mi (pronounced mi), becoming the Viscount of Chu (present-day Jingzhou Hubei Circuit, Jiangling Route, the ancient Jingzhou; one of the Nine Provinces of the Tribute of Yu; this is the very place where Emperor Guangwu of the Later Han raised troops at Mount Lülin). From Xiong Yi down nine generations to Xiong Yan, the years cannot be verified. They can only be recorded after the accession of Xiong Yan's son Xiong Yong. Beginning with King Cheng down to the thirty-fourth year of King Weilie when King Dao was installed, spanning a total of seven hundred and fifteen years, it entered the Warring States period. In the sixteenth year of King Nan, Qin attacked Chu and abducted King Huai. In the eighteenth year, King Huai fled to return, but Qin pursued and caught him; King Huai died in Qin. In the fifty-third year of King Nan, the first year of King Kaolie of Chu, Kou, he moved the capital to Shouchun (present-day Huaxi, Anfeng Route). In the fifty-fourth year of King Zhaoxiang of Qin, Chu moved to Juyang. From the first year of King Dao to the twenty-fourth year of the First Emperor, Chu lasted one hundred and seventy-nine years.
