> Wang Mang, styled Juqing, was a native of Yuancheng. He was the son of Wang Man, younger brother of Empress Xiaoyuan. Having usurped the mandate of the Han, he enfeoffed the Grand Empress Dowager, née Wang, as the Cultured Mother of the House of Xin, discarding the Han title. Mang relied on deceit and wickedness, troubling the people and abusing military force; his crimes overflowed and grievances accumulated. The realm was enraged and raised troops to punish Mang. The Han troops elevated and enthroned Liu Xuan as Emperor. The brave and heroic men of the Three Adjuncts joined together to kill Mang. Mang had usurped the throne for fourteen years. The Three Adjuncts are Jingzhao, Zuo Fenyin (now Tongzhou), and You Fufeng (now Fengxiang Prefecture). Reign eras: Jianguo (5), Tianfeng (6), Dihuang (3).
