> Bian, son of Emperor Ling. In the fourth month of the sixth year of Zhongping, Emperor Ling died, and the emperor ascended the throne at the age of fourteen. Empress Dowager He presided over court, enfeoffing the imperial younger brother Xie as King of Chenliu. The eunuch Jian Shuo wished to execute General-in-Chief He Jin and enthrone Xie. Colonel of the Central Army Yuan Shao then urged He Jin to execute all the eunuchs. Jin reported this to the Empress Dowager, but she would not listen. Shao further said: "Summon many fierce generals from the four quarters, having them lead troops toward the capital to coerce the Empress Dowager." Jin agreed. Dong Zhuo, Governor of Bing Province, immediately set out on the road. The Regular Attendants Zhang Rang and Duan Gui falsely issued an imperial decree in the name of the Empress Dowager to summon He Jin, and they severed Jin's head before Jiade Hall. When Yuan Shao and He Miao heard that Jin had been murdered, they led troops to encamp below the Zhuque Watchtower, captured Zhao Zhong and others, and decapitated them; more than two thousand eunuchs died. Rang and Gui abducted the emperor to Xiaoping Ford; hard-pressed, Rang and Gui threw themselves into the water and died. Dong Zhuo coerced the Empress Dowager to depose the emperor and make him King of Hongnong. The emperor was on the throne for one hundred and eighty days. \[Zhuo\] enthroned his younger brother Xie, King of Chenliu, killed Empress Dowager He, and made himself Chancellor of State.
