> His taboo name was Ye, and his courtesy name was Yanqi. He was the son of Prince Yan of Wu and a grandson of Emperor Wu. Luoyang could not be defended, and Emperor Huai was forced into exile. In the second month of the guiyou year, Emperor Huai was murdered. In the fourth month, the ill tidings reached Chang'an. The ministers installed the Emperor on the throne and changed the reign era to Jianxing. In the ninth month of the fourth year, the Han Grand Minister of War, Liu Yao, pressed upon Chang'an. In the eleventh month, the Emperor said to his ministers, "Our distress is like this; we must endure disgrace and go forth to surrender so that the soldiers and people may be saved." The ministers wailed and wept, clinging to the carriage and holding the Emperor's hand. Liu Yao dispatched Zong Chang to escort the Emperor back to the palace. On the dingyou day, the Emperor and the dukes, ministers, and below were transferred to his camp. On the xinchou day, they were escorted to Pingyang.
