> In the eighth month, King Wei of Tuyuhun, Achai, died. He had twenty sons. Falling ill, he summoned the sons and brothers and addressed them, saying, 'When I die, you all must honor Mugui as ruler.' Gui was Achai's younger maternal brother. He also ordered the sons each to present an arrow; taking one arrow, he handed it to his younger brother Muliyan and told him to snap it. He then took a bundle of nineteen arrows and told him to snap them, but he could not snap them. Achai instructed them, saying, 'A solitary one is easy to snap, but a crowd is difficult to destroy. You all must unite your efforts with one mind, so that you may preserve the state and safeguard your families.' Finishing his words, he died. Mugui welcomed and sheltered the displaced people of Qin and Liang, and the tribe grew increasingly prosperous. The Continued Book of Han states: 'Achai Qiang was a separate branch of the Sanmiao, surnamed Jiang.'
