> Vinaya Master as Monastic Rectifier: Emperor Xuan of the Chen, once again for the sake of his mother, the Filial Dowager Consort, built a sacred pillar (stupa) of one hundred and fifty feet at Taihuang Monastery. Beneath it he enshrined a Buddha's fingernail, kept in a precious casket. He decreed that all monks in the country who had been ordained for less than five years must study the Vinaya division, and widely established lecture grounds in the great monasteries of the capital and cities. He also decreed Vinaya Master Yuan to oversee and inspect them, clearly set forth the examinations, and had the authorities supply clothing and food. He further decreed Vinaya Master Yuan to be the Monastic Rectifier of the State (Sengshi lüe).
