> In the third month, the Emperor of the Zhou crossed the river to attack Tang. The ruler of Tang was ashamed to surrender and call himself a vassal, so he dispatched Vice Minister of War Chen Jue bearing a memorial, offering to abdicate the throne in favor of Crown Prince Hong and surrender the four prefectures of Lu, Shu, Qi, and Huang, taking the river as the border to seek an end to hostilities. In the fifth month, the ruler of Tang, Hong, changed his name to Yu to avoid the Zhou taboo, issued orders relinquishing the title of Emperor to call himself Lord of the State, lowered and curtailed all the imperial rites and institutions, abandoned his reign title to use the Zhou calendar, and then announced this in the ancestral temple.
