> Chan Master Zantang of Letan in Longxing Prefecture was named Wenzhun. He was born into the Liang family of Xingyuan Prefecture. After receiving full ordination, he traveled to study and visited Chan Master Zhenjing Wen. He served him diligently for ten years. One day, raising his staff, he opened a ditch; the water splashed on his clothes, and he was suddenly greatly enlightened. Li Jingzhi, Duke of Xianmo, who was the governor of Yuzhang, invited him to inaugurate the teaching at Yunyan, and he later moved to Letan. Arriving at the fifth year of Zhenghe, on the twentieth day of the tenth month, he changed his robes, spoke a verse, and passed away. After cremation, his pupils, teeth, and prayer beads were undamaged. His relics were round as crystal, pure and bright, and were entombed in a stūpa on the southern side of the Southern Mountain. Layman Wujin, Prime Minister Duke Zhang Shangying, composed the stele of his conduct and deeds; this was requested by Chan Master Dahui Gao when he was a fellow monastic companion. The master was a dharma heir of Zhenjing Wen; Wen was a dharma heir of Chan Master Huanglong Nan.
