In the tenth month of that year, he was ordained and traveled to Hangzhou to study under masters. He visited Songyuan Yue at Lingyin and Kengtang Chong at Jingci. He paid homage to Chan Master P’an Xian at Xiuhua Peak in Pingjiang, suddenly awakening to the profound principle. He assumed the abbacy at Qingliang in Mingzhou, moved to Jiaoshan, transferred to Xuedou, was decreed to dwell at Yuwang, and then transferred to Jingshan. He was summoned for an audience at the Xiuzheng Hall and was granted a golden brocade monastic robe. By imperial decree, he went to the Ciming Hall and ascended the high seat to preach the Dharma, while the emperor listened from behind a lowered screen, bestowing upon him the title 'Chan Master Fojian.' Later he established a guest hall, and the emperor inscribed a plaque for it reading 'Wannian Zhengxu.' He also built a study above the Mingyue Pool with a plaque reading 'Tuigeng,' and submitted a memorial begging to retire on account of age.
