> During the summer there had been no rain for a long time. The Emperor personally prayed: wearing plain white robes and straw sandals, he walked to the Altar of the Mountains and Rivers. By day he exposed himself to the sun; by night he slept on the ground. The Crown Prince held the flagon and presented farmer's food, mixing hemp, wheat, beans, and millet. This lasted for three days in all, after which there was a great rain, drenching the four suburbs thoroughly.
