> The sūtra states: At that time, King Śuddhodana was going to pay homage to the celestial deity. He stepped forward, carried the prince, and placed him on an elephant palanquin. The ministers, court ladies, and gods played music, following him into the city and proceeding to the temple. The statues of Brahmā and Śakra all rose from their seats, paid homage at the prince’s feet, and said, “This prince is the most honored among gods and humans. How could he now wish to pay homage to us?” When the ministers inside and outside saw this matter, they sighed, saying it was unprecedented. They brought the prince out and returned to their own palace.
