> The sūtra says: The Prince went out on an excursion and came before the royal fields. He rested under a jambu tree. The sunlight was blazing, but the tree bent its branches to shade the Prince's body. Looking upon the plowing laborers, \[he saw that\] the Śuddhāvāsa devas manifested as dead worms, and crows followed, pecking and swallowing them. Seeing this, he gave rise to compassion and attained the four dhyānas. The king soon arrived afterwards, comforted him, and led him back. Fearing that he would leave home, he increased the courtesans and the various accoutrements of entertainment to restrain his mind.
