> Sengyou notes: When examining the vinayas and the sūtras, the circumstances and accounts differ greatly. It is truly because they addressed different dispositions that both explanations are preserved. Moreover, observing the Śākya clan, it was like dense clouds spreading crimson moisture: although Dharma and the secular are truly different, the attainment of the path is alike. Nanda cast aside glory and desire to follow the path; Rāhula relinquished the rank of a cakravartin to succeed to the Dharma. Encircled by sandalwood, dragon-elephants formed herds; without favoring kin or stranger, the Buddha delivered them as was fitting. The excellence of the Tamer can be seen herein.
