> The Buddha arrived at the eastern gate of Kapilavastu and saw smoke and fire blazing. He went beneath a nyagrodha tree, sat down, and told the monks, "This city is empty; there is no need to enter again." He then went to Śrāvastī and said, "Within seven days, the king and his army will all perish." Hearing this, they were all terrified, fearing foreign invaders. When the seven days were complete, they congratulated themselves on being safe and sound, and led the troops to the river. Suddenly there was a great thunderclap, violent wind, and torrential rain; in an instant they were swept away and drowned, dying and entering the Avīci hell. Heavenly fire burned the palace. The Buddha then expounded for them the past story of the Śākyas catching fish.
