> The Vinaya says: The King of Magadha thought, 'When the Buddha first arrived at the grove, I would immediately donate it for him to reside in.' The Buddha knew this thought and went to the Bamboo Grove. The king poured water onto the Buddha's hands from a golden pitcher and offered the grove to the Buddha. The Buddha said, 'You should bestow it on the Saṃgha headed by the Buddha. If it were solely the property of the Buddha, no one could use it, because it must be revered like a stūpa.' The king then complied with the teaching and gave it to the Saṃgha headed by the Buddha, together with various ornaments and all utensils for their use (because it remains luxuriant in winter and summer, it is also called the Sītavana \[Cool Forest\]).
