Receiving Kāśyapa's command, he recited and compiled the supreme eye. Later, when Kāśyapa was about to enter nirvāṇa, together with King Ajātaśatru he went to Cock's Foot Mountain (Kukkuṭapāda), burned incense, scattered flowers, praised him, and made offerings. The king said, 'Venerable one, when the Tathāgata and Kāśyapa entered parinirvāṇa, because of my own many misfortunes, I was not able to see them. When you, venerable sir, pass into extinction, I pray only that you condescend to inform me.' Ānanda said, 'Very well, I respectfully accept your command.' Thereupon he wandered about, proclaiming the wonderful Dharma, transforming living beings and enabling them all to be delivered.
