> Master Dao'an considered: If one could receive teachings from him in person, it would be no different from seeing a sage. Eminent men of successive generations have all praised and longed for him. When I investigated the various catalogues, records concerning Master Shigao showed discrepancies of inclusion and omission; perhaps this is because his expedient manifestations were hidden or apparent and his responses took many turns, or perhaps because chroniclers made errors that resulted in conflicting accounts. I have duly gathered and recorded these various discrepancies, in the hope that they may be discussed.
