> Saṃghabhadra, translated here as Zhongxian (“Manifesting the Assembly”), was a native of Kashmir. Resolute and possessing profound and magnificent capacity, he visited famous teachers one after another, fully mastered the Tripiṭaka, read widely in many scriptures, and was particularly adept in the scriptures on numerical categories (\*gaṇanā\*). He could recite from memory the \*Abhidharma-vibhāṣā\* and thoroughly understood its subtle meaning. He constantly roamed abroad at his pleasure, observing customs and propagating transformation.
