> At that time, there was a foreign man of the Way named Saṅghazha, lodging at the Changgan Temple in the capital. A visiting monk named Sengwu lodged in the same room with Zha; through a crack in the window, he saw Zha take the temple pillar-spire, lift it into the clouds, and then bring it down. Sengwu did not dare speak, but felt deep reverent awe. At that time, there was a man surnamed Zhang named Nu, whose origins were unknown. He was rarely seen eating, yet was always plump and healthy, wearing single-layer hemp clothing throughout winter and summer. Walking along the road, Zha saw Zhang Nu and smiled with joy. Zha said, "In the east I saw Cai Tun, in the south I visited Master Ma, in the north I met Wang Nian, and now, as I was going to see Beidu, I meet you, sir!" Zhang Nu then inscribed a poem on a locust tree and sang: / "Within the dim and vast Great Image, / The radiant light shines manifestly bright. / For what cause do confused and benighted mortals / Give rein to delusion and invite their own calamity? / To the place of joy, few journey; / The paths of suffering are like an emptied pouch. / Without the integrity of pine and cypress, / How can one withstand the wind and frost? / At ease, taking part beyond the purple mists, / My long song rises out of the azure sky. / The clear spirit beyond form / Ought to manifest in lands where there are conditions. / The Year Star assisted the Han ruler; / The radiant planets aided the Shang king. / I am neither of these two immortals, / Concealing my tracks across the nine realms. / I also see worldly mortals, / Bringing bitter grief wherever my eyes fall. / I briefly sing to contemplate those with mind; / How could this fully display my inner feelings?"
