- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [11.48](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2059.11.48)

> Shi Sengcong—it is not clear what sort of person he was. By nature quiet and detached, he lived in seclusion on Mount Pubu in Shifeng. He mastered both internal and external learning, cultivated the five gates \[of meditation\] with refinement, abstained from the five grains, and fed only on dates and chestnuts. Approaching a hundred years of age, his energy was flourishing and strong, and he paid homage and recited without ceasing. He formed a friendship in the forest with the hermit Chu Boyu. Whenever they discussed the Way and expounded its principles, he would linger for two nights. Later he died in the mountains.
