> Saṅghavarman, translated here as Zhongkai ("Armor of the Saṃgha"), was a native of Tianzhu. In his youth he abandoned the secular life; he was pure, upright, and possessed preceptive virtue, well versed in the Tripiṭaka, and especially proficient in the Samyuktābhidharmahṛdaya. In the tenth year of the Yuanjia reign-era of the Song dynasty, he came out from the shifting sands and arrived at the capital. His demeanor was grand and solemn, and monastics and laity revered him as extraordinary; all honored and served him, styling him "Tripiṭaka Dharma Master".
