> Dun had a fellow student named Faqian, who had penetrated the subtle principles with spiritual subtlety; he died before Dun. Dun sighed, saying: 'Of old, Carpenter Shi laid aside his axe upon the death of the man of Ying, and Boya ceased plucking his strings upon the death of Zhong Ziqi. Gauging others by oneself, this is truly no hollow saying! Since the precious bond has faded into the shadows, and whatever words I utter find none to appreciate them, my heart is knotted with sorrow—I too must surely die!' He then composed the 'Treatise on Keen Awakening' (Qiewu zhang), completing it on the brink of death; he laid down his brush and passed away. All of the writings and literary collections authored by Dun amounted to ten fascicles, which circulated widely in the world.
