> Fu Jian, the Qin ruler, revered his virtuous character and dispatched envoys to summon and invite him, but Lang persistently declined on the grounds of old age and illness, so it ceased. Thereupon Fu Jian sent monthly letters and offerings. Later, when Fu Jian carried out a purge of the saṃgha, he issued a special edict stating: "Dharma Master Lang's monastic discipline is pure as frost and ice, and his disciples are refined and outstanding; the single mountain of Kunlun shall be exempt from search." Later, Yao Xing of the Later Qin also admired and deeply respected him. Murong De, ruler of Yan, respected Lang's renown and conduct, conferred on him the title King of Dongqi, and granted him the tax revenues of two counties; Lang declined the princely title but accepted the tax revenues to cultivate fields of merit. Emperor Xiaowu of Jin sent letters and gifts, and Tuoba Gui, ruler of Wei, also dispatched letters and presents; so greatly was he venerated by his contemporaries. This valley had formerly suffered many tiger attacks, and people had always carried weapons and moved in groups; but once Lang took up residence, the ferocious beasts submitted. People could travel morning and night, and neither monastics nor layfolk were hindered. The common people marveled and praised his virtue endlessly; thus down to this day, the people of Fenggao still call Jinyu Valley "Master Lang's Valley." Whenever visitors came to Lang, no matter how many there were, he would always foresee it a day before their arrival. When he directed his disciples to prepare food and drink, the visitors would arrive exactly as predicted, and no one failed to admire his clairvoyant foreknowledge. Later he passed away in the mountains at the age of eighty-five.
