> In the past, when Master Dao'an was within the passes, he invited Dharmanandin to translate the Abhidharma-hṛdaya. That man was not skilled in the Jin language, and there was much doubt and stagnation. Later, there was the Kashmiri monk Saṃghadeva, who was broadly learned in the various scriptures; in the sixteenth year of the Taiyuan era of the Jin dynasty, he came to Xunyang. Huiyuan requested him to retranslate the Abhidharma-hṛdaya and the San fadu lun (\*Tridharmakhaṇḍaka-śāstra). Thereupon, these two studies flourished, and Huiyuan composed prefaces indicating their essential doctrines to bequeath to scholars.
