高僧傳 6.56

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [6.56](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2059.6.56)

遠有弟子慧要，亦解經律，而尤長巧思。山中無刻漏，乃於泉水中立十二葉芙蓉，因流波轉，以定十二時，晷景無差焉。亦嘗作木鳶，飛數百步。

> Huiyuan had a disciple named Huiyao, who also understood the sūtras and vinaya, but was especially skilled in ingenious contrivances. As there was no water clock on the mountain, he fashioned a twelve-petaled lotus in the spring water, which rotated with the flowing ripples to determine the twelve hours, and the shadow of the sun never deviated. He also once constructed a wooden kite that flew for several hundred paces.
