> Yao Xing also sent a letter to the two Dharma masters Kumārajīva and Sengqi, saying: 'Having parted several ten-day periods ago, my mind is constantly turned toward you. It is growing gradually warmer, and I trust you are peaceful and at ease. The lesser northern barbarians have mounted an expedition far off, and with no other dispositions made, I am left somewhat distressed. Amid the pressure of myriad state affairs, talent is urgently needed to manage them. Recently I issued a decree to the two men, Daoheng and Daobiao, ordering them to cast off the robes of the arhat and follow the path of the Mahāsattva; since the Dao is present everywhere, I hope the Dharma masters will assist in persuading them.'
