> In the early Yuanjia era of the Song, Xu Xianzhi, Tan Daoji, and others monopolized the court government. \[Fan\] Tai wore an indignant expression and once spoke out boldly, denouncing them. \[Xu\] Xianzhi and the others resented this deeply. Those who heard of it all feared that \[Fan\] Tai would suffer unforeseen disaster, and \[Fan\] Tai also worried that calamity would reach him; he thus asked \[Hui\]yi for the art of staying safe. \[Hui\]yi said: 'If loyalty and compliance are not lost in serving one's superior, superior and inferior can remain affectionate toward each other; what worry is there to be concerned about?' He then urged \[Fan\] Tai to donate his sixty-mu bamboo orchard to the temple as a blessing in the unseen world. \[Fan\] Tai followed his advice and ultimately enjoyed good fortune. When \[Fan\] Tai died, his third son, \[Fan\] Yan, claimed that \[Hui\]yi had previously taken advantage of his father's peril to persuade him to give up the orchard land; nursing this as a grievance, he seized it back and would not give it over. \[Hui\]yi held onto \[Fan\] Tai's testamentary letter, and a tangled dispute arose, becoming manifest to public sight and hearing. \[Hui\]yi then moved to Wuyi, living together with Huirui. In the twenty-first year of the Yuanjia era of the Song, he died at Wuyi Temple, at the age of seventy-three.
