> When Emperor Ming of the Song ascended the throne, he invited Yuan to be his master, but was ultimately unable to bring him forth. Thereafter, recluses dwelling in the mountains and persons of lofty spirit who looked down upon the world all climbed up to the mountain gate in succession and paid homage at his dhyāna chamber. He Dian of Mount Lu, Zhou Yong of Runan, Ming Sengshao of Qi Commandery, Wu Bao of Puyang, and Zhang Rong of the state of Wu all threw themselves at his feet and sought instruction in his vinaya models. Later, Prince Jingsu of Jianping of the Song, considering that Qixuan Temple was founded by his late father, and that it was equally detached from the human realm, wished to invite Yuan to reside there. Despite earnest entreaties repeated several times, Yuan ultimately did not descend the mountain.
