He left home in his youth. His aspirations were firm in secluded pursuits, and he traversed famous mountains everywhere. At the end of the Liang, he wandered to Mount Tiantai and integrated the practice of meditation. When entering his room he closed the door, and when leaving he flung the door open; with only his robes and bowl on his person, he left behind only a bed-mat. Truly he was a refined and detached gentleman. At the inception of the Chen dynasty, carrying his staff he went to Longpan, cutting off traces of worldly affairs for more than fifty years. He esteemed the dhūtas and constantly dwelt in tranquil silence; from his youth to his end, his ribs never touched \[the mat\]. Although his form deteriorated as his years accumulated, his determination for refined discipline grew all the stricter in his old age. On the twenty-third day of the eighth month in the fourth year of the Renshou reign, he passed away in his quarters at Lvdai Temple in Jiangzhou, at the age of ninety-six. His bequeathed instructions directed that his corpse be exposed at the northern ridge, and later collected and interred at the south of the mountain.
