> Shi Facheng, a native of Wu Commandery, was quick-witted in his youth and skilled in discussion; he was well versed in literature, books, and histories. Initially, he followed Master Lang of Xinghuang Monastery to hear lectures expounding the Three Treatises; whenever the doctrines were conflicting or contradictory, he organized them with clarity and fluency. Later, he gathered disciples and established lectures at Kaishan Monastery in Jiangdu, where often more than two hundred monks listened. His transformation covered the regions of Wu and Chu, and his fame spread across the Huai and the sea; carrying their book-bags, people hastened there, and the seating mats increased daily. When the Prince of Jin established the four bodhimaṇḍalas, Facheng was summoned to enter; adapting to the times and enlightening beings, his grand guidance never ceased. In the third year of Renshou, he received an order to go to the capital area and reside at Riyang Monastery. He widely expanded his hearing and seeing, modeling new insights. Expounding and lecturing on the Dazhidu lun, his reputation grew ever weightier, and the master scholars of the capital all visited to question him. When Emperor Yang moved the court to the Eastern Capital, fixing the cauldrons at the Yi and Luo rivers, Facheng followed out past the east of Mount Xiao. He passed away due to illness, aged over seventy.
