> Śramaṇa Sengbao was a native of Jingzhao. In his youth, while in Guanzhong, he received instruction under Master Kumārajīva. During the Yongchu reign of the Song, he traveled north, slowly entering the Huangshan Vihāra. There, he established a twenty-one-day Samantabhadra retreat. When the repentance reached the seventeenth day, a white crane flew in and settled before the seat of Samantabhadra; it departed only when the circumambulation and incense offering were concluded at midday. On the twenty-first day, four men clad in yellow robes also circumambulated the stūpa several times and suddenly disappeared.
