> Shi Huijin, surnamed Yao, was a native of Wuxing. In his youth he was bold and brave, giving free rein to his nature as a knight-errant. At the age of thirty, his mind suddenly opened in awakening; he thereupon left secular life and stayed at Gaozuo Monastery in the capital. Eating vegetarian food and wearing plain garments, he vowed to recite the Lotus Sūtra. Exerting his mind with great toil, he fell ill whenever he held the scrolls. He then made a vow, wishing to produce one hundred sets of the Lotus Sūtra to repent of his past hindrances. When he had first gathered one thousand six hundred coins, robbers came and asked Huijin, "Do you have any belongings?" He answered, "There is only the money for producing sūtras placed before the Buddha." The bandits heard this, felt ashamed, and left. Thereupon, faithful donations gathered and he was able to complete the sūtras, fulfilling the full hundred sets. After the sūtras were completed, his illness also improved slightly. He then recited one complete copy of the Lotus Sūtra. His wish having been fulfilled, his discipline became all the firmer. He constantly dedicated all his meritorious karma, wishing to be reborn in the Land of Peace and Sustenance (Anyang). Shortly before his death, he suddenly heard a voice in the air say: "Your wish has already been fulfilled; you will surely attain rebirth in the Western Direction." In the third year of the Yongming era of the Qi, he died without illness at the age of eighty-five. At that time, at Longhua Monastery in the capital, there was also Shi Sengnian, who recited the Lotus Sūtra, ate vegetarian food, and withdrew from the world.
