> The upāsaka Lu Chun was a native of Wu. He recited the entire Lotus Sūtra, kept a vegetarian diet, and observed constant fasting. In the fifth month of the second year of the Daye reign era, he contracted a very grave illness. After more than ten days, for the last four days and four nights, he lay on his back looking at the roof, never blinking for a moment. An acquaintance, Master Rui, came to visit the sick and asked, "What do you see?" He replied, "The Buddha predicted that Chun should be reborn in the Yāma Heaven. Now I see that heaven's palaces, halls, forests, city walls, watchtowers, and the retinues of devas; gazing upon them brings such joy that I feel no weariness." After four days, he passed away.
