> Zhu Fachun: it is not known where he was from. He went forth from the household life when young, stayed at Xianyi Temple in Shanyin, and practiced austerities. Having virtue, he was skilled in reciting the Guanyin Chapter of the Lotus Sūtra and the old Vimalakīrti-nirdeśa-sūtra. During the Yuanxing reign-period of the Jin, on behalf of the temple he went up to Lanzhu to purchase old buildings. Returning at dusk upon the lake, he encountered a violent storm, and the boat was small. Fachun single-mindedly relied upon Avalokiteśvara, reciting the Universal Gate Chapter with his mouth without ceasing. Soon he saw a large drifting boat; boarding it, he was saved. Reaching the shore, he inquired about the boat, but it had no owner, and in an instant it was seen no more. Clergy and laity all sighed in admiration at the divine resonance. It is not known where he ended his days.
