> The monk Sengche lived in Xianquan Temple on Mount Nangu in Jiangzhou. Formerly, while walking, he met a leper in a cave. Che led him into the mountains, dug a cave for him, supplied him with food, and had him recite the Lotus Sūtra. \[The man\] had never known letters, and was moreover stubborn and rustic, yet \[Che\] taught him sentence by sentence, never flagging with fatigue. When he had recited nearly half the sūtra, he dreamt of someone instructing him; thereafter he became somewhat intelligent. Having mastered five or six scrolls, he gradually felt his sores healing. Once the full sūtra was finished, his beard and eyebrows were restored and his complexion was normal. Thus the sūtra says: "It is a good medicine for illness." This is truly verified!
