> Tanyi of the Song lived in Qiantang and practiced medicine as his profession. In his later years, he cultivated the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi, giving away all his accumulated possessions to make offerings to the Buddha, provide food for monks, create images, and establish baths. He did this for twenty years. Later, falling slightly ill, he discarded medicines and stones, and invited seven monks to chant the Buddha's name. The next day, he saw a lotus blossom as large as a house. On another day, he saw an Indian monk approach his couch and inquire after his health. At midnight, the assembly heard the sound of his buddhamanasikāra grow faint; when they looked at him, he had peacefully departed forever.
