> Daojing of the Jin was a native of Langya. His grandfather Ningzhi was the Inspector of Jiangzhou; because of this, Daojing followed Master Yuan to leave the household at the age of seventeen. Broadly versed in sūtras and treatises, he recorded ten thousand words a day. With resolute aspiration he engaged in buddhamanasikāra, day and night without interruption. In the first year of the Yongchu era of the Song, he said to the assembly: "My late teacher is summoning me; I shall depart." Sitting upright and chanting the Buddha's name, he transformed. The assembly saw light filling the room, which extinguished only after an entire hour.
