> Daoyu of the Sui dynasty lived at Kaijue Temple, reciting the name of Amitābha Buddha day and night without ceasing. He made an image only three inches tall. Later, in concentration, he saw the Buddha say to him, "Why did you make my image so small?" Yu said: "If the mind is large, it is large; if the mind is small, it is small." Having spoken, he saw the image's body fill all of space, and it told him: "You should bathe and cleanse yourself; when the bright star appears, I will come to welcome you." When the time arrived, he indeed saw the Buddha come, light filling the room; thereupon he sat and passed away.
