> Sun Zhong of the Song dynasty was a native of Siming. From early on he yearned for the Western Direction. East of the commandery city, he built a hermitage to practice buddhamanasikāra. Later, due to illness, he invited a hundred monks to maintain mindfulness. Suddenly he looked up into the air, joined his palms, formed mudrās with both hands, and passed away with a joyful countenance. The whole city heard heavenly music and an extraordinary fragrance, which gradually faded toward the west. His three sons successively practiced buddhamanasikāra and likewise passed away sitting upright.
