> Yu Xian of the Liang dynasty was a native of Xinye. Emperor Wu summoned him to serve as a Gentleman of the Yellow Gate, but he did not accept and performed buddhamanasikāra throughout the six periods of the day. One evening he saw a man of the Dao who called himself Master Yuan, addressed Xian as 'Sir Shangxing', presented incense, and departed. Four years later, Yuan arrived again, and \[Yu Xian\] thereupon passed away. A voice in the air said, 'Sir Shangxing has already become master of Peaceful Nourishment.'
