> The Hermit of Fupen asked a monk, "Where have you come from?" The monk said, "From below Mount Fupen." The Master said, "Did you see the hermit?" The monk shouted. The Master slapped him. The monk said, "What are you doing?" The Master shouted again. One day a monk came up from below the mountain weeping. The Master closed the gate of the hermitage. The monk drew a circular figure of a full moon on the gate. The Master came out from behind the hermitage and came weeping up from below the mountain. The monk shouted and said, "Still making this coming and going!" The Master beat his chest with alternate hands and said, "Alas, my late teacher has been entirely buried away!" The monk said, "Suffering, suffering!" The Master said, "The hermit has been deceived."
