> Upādhyāya Shiwei of Fuqing Cloister in Quanzhou, styled Chan Master Tongxuan. A monk asked, "A branch offshoot of Mount Jia, truly succeeding to Xiaoyao; having ascended the jeweled seat, we pray you roar the Dharma thunder." The Master said, "Xiaoyao is far beyond things; beyond things, no rosy clouds arise." A monk asked, "What is the exact meaning of coming from the West?" The Master said, "Standing in the snow was not yet toil; cutting off the arm was truly exact." The monk said, "If so, then one flower opened into five petals, whose fragrance lasts until now." The Master said, "The cause is complete beyond the three realms; the fruit is full, known to the ten directions."
