> Chan Master Qilun of Xingshan in the Western Capital, Luoyang. A monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The master said, "To say so to you will do." A monk asked, "What is the meaning of coming from the West?" The master said, "Just now I still remembered." On the occasion of the passing of Grand Preceptor Li Jixun, who had retired from office, a monk asked, "'These phenomena abide in their phenomenal positions, and the characteristics of the world are constantly abiding.' I wonder, to what place has Grand Preceptor Lord Li gone?" The master said, "You happened to ask the right question." The monk said, "If so, then I have put forth an inquiry in vain." The master said, "You are quite sharp."
