> Chan Master Zongyin of Mount Sanjiao in Tanzhou. A monk asked: 'What is the Three Jewels?' The Master said: 'Rice, wheat, and beans.' The monk said: 'I do not understand.' The Master said: 'The great assembly joyfully receives and upholds them.' The Master ascended the hall and said: 'If we discuss this matter, blinking an eyebrow has already missed it.' Magu then asked: 'Not asking about blinking an eyebrow, what is this matter?' The Master said: 'It is missed.' Magu thereupon overturned the meditation bed. The Master struck him. Magu had nothing to say. (Changqing substituted: 'Silent.')
