> Chan Master Zuile of Baoshou in Fuzhou was a native of Gutian. Ascending the hall: "The Buddhas do not truly preach the Dharma to save the multitude of sentient beings; the bodhisattvas possess wisdom, yet their seeing of the nature is not distinct. The white clouds have no mind, yet sprinkle rain for the world; the great earth harbors no sentiment, yet can grow all grasses and trees. If you can understand, cognitive understanding still remains; if you cannot understand, you fall into the indeterminate. Leaving behind these two paths, what is right? The sea is broad, hard to conceal the moon; the mountains are deep, exceptionally cold."
