For generations his family were farmers. In his youth, he took Deguang of Jianfu Temple in his district as his teacher. By nature he was rustic and blunt, yet diligent in the ancestral Dao. He sat steadfastly without lying down, and after living thus for several years, was ordained. He traveled to Mount Lu and reached Donglin.
