> Chan Master Zhongyuan of Daowu in Tanzhou ascended the hall: '"It is not mind, it is not Buddha, it is not things." The ancients spoke thus; it is like peeping at a leopard through a tube, seeing only a single spot. Even if one enters the forest without stirring the grass, or enters the water without stirring the waves, it is still like riding a horse across the icy ridges. If you are an eagle-shooting archer, why not scrape the itch on the snake's head? Let those with true eyes test their discernment and see!' After a good while he said: 'The mandarin ducks are embroidered, born of the golden needle.'
