- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [22.30](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2077.22.30)

> Chan Master Xuanneng of Wenshu in De'an Prefecture. A monk asked, "What is the Patriarch's lamp?" The master said, "There are none of the four modes of birth it does not illuminate; one point is left entirely to your seeing." Ascending the hall: "Shigong's arrow, Mimo's pitchfork— / If you understand them right on the spot, they are flowers in the sky of your eyes. / Pitiful, laughable, the guest of Shaolin: / Secretly carrying a single shoe across the shifting sands."
